 According to the Census Bureau's newly released 2007 American Community Survey and Current Population Survey data:
- The
percent of Virginians living below poverty rose from 9.6% in 2006 to
9.9% in 2007, however this difference is not statistically significant.
- Thirteen
percent of Virginia’s children were living in poverty in 2007 – we had
the 12th lowest percentage of all 50 states and the District of
Columbia. In 2006 Virginia had the 8th lowest percentage.
- Median
earnings for Virginians 25 and older was $37,461 in 2007. The median
earnings for high school graduates was $28,210 and the median earnings
for those with a graduate or professional degree was $73,697.
- An average of 13.6% of Virginians were uninsured from 2005 to 2007. This is statistically lower than the national average, 15.4%.
